SURFACE DESIGN ASSOCIATION FEATURE

The name Chimeras pays homage to the legendary fire-breathing monster from Greek mythology, known for its composite features of a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a serpent’s tail. My works explore themes of hybridization, transformation, and interconnectedness. To make these sculptural quilts, I source inspiration from the botanical chimeras—plants or plant parts that are a mixture of genetically different types of cells. These walk the line between function and art and demand that craft be considered with the same reverence as painting and sculpture. They are paintings, they are sculptures that hang on the wall, and they are symbolic blankets to keep warm by.

Create! Magazine Feature

Ceramicist Courtney Dudley recently launched Sudden Relics, a solo exhibition of sculptural and video work created during the COVID19 quarantine at Paradice Palase. This new body of work came about in response to the unforeseen changes we've all endured during the COVID19 pandemic, as well as Courtney's deeply personal story about the loss of her pregnancy at the onset of the quarantine.

Ante Magazine Exhibition Review

On view at Paradice Palase (1260 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY) through Saturday, August 29th, Courtney Dudley’s transcendent “Sudden Relics” makes manifest a new body of work reflecting the natural materials and flashing screens that define our confined yet simplified lifestyle during quarantine. Composed of new works made made with clay and pit-fired in the artist’s own Kingston, NY backyard, these works – and the resulting video “Dig” on display – present this primitive process-as-creatively re-imagined practice.

Paradice Palase Virtual Studio Visit

Our Virtual Visits are a series of online studio visit with emerging artists. Over the summer we hosted a collection of weekly visits with each of the artists in our Oasis Studios Building.

Watch the recording from our July 21st, 2020 session with artist Courtney Dudley.
